The Global Forum for Media Development is the largest global community for media development, media freedom, and journalism support. Through collaboration, coordination, and collective action, our network of 242 member organisations and partners creates, promotes, and delivers policies and programmes to sustain journalism as a public good.

About the Role

GFMD is seeking a Tech Assistant to support our team in the development, testing and maintaining of the tech stack – focused on our customer relationship management system. Working closely with the team, you will help set up, document, and test systems that support audience engagement and membership growth.

The role is focused on ensuring that all 11 GFMD staff members are able to use Odoo for core functions of the organisation, which includes managing prospective members and subscribers through the journey from sign-up to payment, onboarding, and access to member and/or subscriber content. You will help configure and test Odoo, GitBook and other tools to document workflows, identify issues, and support continuous improvements to how the team uses these tools. Time commitment is part-time (three days a week).

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the GFMD team in Odoo module setup, including Project, CRM, Email Marketing etc., and identify required plugins and integration options.
  • Maintain clear documentation of dependencies and configurations in the GFMD Tech Stack as well as clear records of tests, workflows, and findings.
  • Report issues, bugs, and recommendations to the project team.
  • Assist with quality assurance and user acceptance testing.
  • Fix technical issues with GFMD’s tech stack.
  • Document guidance for the team.

Who You Are

You are organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with web platforms and digital tools. You enjoy testing systems, documenting processes, and helping improve user experiences. You are interested in how digital products can support membership and subscriber growth and audience engagement.

You are collaborative, proactive, and able to work independently while communicating clearly with colleagues.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience of using Odoo.
  • Strong documentation and organisational skills.
  • Ability to identify technical issues and communicate findings clearly.
  • Comfortable working remotely and managing your own workload.
  • Excellent written communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF).
Basic understanding of membership, subscription, or user-access systems.
Familiarity with payment systems such as Stripe or Mollie.
Experience supporting website launches, migrations, or membership and subscriber programmes.
Interest in media development, journalism, or non-profit organisations.
Familiarity with WordPress plugins and content management workflows.
Experience working with WordPress websites and CRMs (ideally Odoo).
